Side Effects and Complications
1. Bleeding and Hematoma: Bleeding may occur during the surgery. If hemostasis is not complete postoperatively, a hematoma may form, presenting as breast swelling, pain, and skin bruising.
2. Infection: If the surgical incision becomes infected with bacteria, symptoms such as redness, swelling, fever, and pain may appear. In severe cases, this can affect the surgical outcome and breast recovery.
3. Reduced Sensation of the Nipple and Areola: The surgery may damage the nerves of the nipple and areola, leading to diminished or lost sensation. This condition is usually temporary, though a small number of patients may experience it long-term.
4. Breast Asymmetry: Due to surgical inaccuracies or differences in the baseline conditions of the patient's two breasts, asymmetry in breast shape may occur after surgery.
5. Hypertrophic Scarring: After the surgical incision heals, hypertrophic scarring may develop, characterized by thickened, hardened, and itchy scars.
